The Darrell McDonald Fund

Raising funds for Sarcoma UK

Darrell McDonald, a tireless advocate for sarcoma cancer awareness and winner of a Shining Star award, died aged 44 in January 2025 after a four and a half year journey with synovial sarcoma.

Darrell, a charity manager and father of two, found a lump on his neck in 2020 during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. Initially struggling to get an in-person appointment, he was prescribed antibiotics for what doctors thought was an infection. By the time he received his correct diagnosis - delivered on his 40th birthday - the cancer had already spread to his lungs and brain.

Approximately two years after his diagnosis, Darrell channelled his experiences and emotions into writing the book Straight Red, a blend of fiction and non-fiction. Encouraged by others who witnessed his resilience and positivity, he decided to share his story in hopes of helping others facing similar battles.

Darrell's family have set up this Group Fund in his memory to continue making an impact on the sarcoma community.
