The Isobel Sheppard Fund

Raising funds for Sarcoma UK

In January 2020 Isobel (Izzy) was a vibrant and happy 12 year old who suddenly struggled to walk.  After 2 weeks in hospital the doctors broke the shocking news that she had a synovial sarcoma in her groin.  Izzy underwent chemotherapy and a radical amputation of her entire right leg during the pandemic and she was left with only her left leg.

Not one to let things hold her back, Izzy wanted to raise awareness and spoke to the Bury Free Press, the BBC and was involved in a Sarcoma UK fundraising initiative where she shared details of her sarcoma experience.

Life seemingly returned to a new normal and Izzy was enjoying life and preparing to sit her GCSE’s.  However, she unexpectedly suffered a brain bleed on 15th October 2022; tragically the cancer had returned, this time it has metastasized and was present in her brain, lungs, kidney and adrenal gland.  Izzy had a short illness and passed away on 14th December 2022.

Izzy truly was the kindest, funniest, sassiest and most amazing young woman with a heart of gold who is missed by her family and friends every single day.

We have set up this page in memory of our beautiful daughter to continue her efforts in raising funds as well as raising awareness of synovial sarcoma.  Nothing will bring our daughter back, but we hope to be able to help those who will be affected by sarcoma in the future, so maybe one day they won’t have to endure what our daughter did.
